My Sister

Me and Jamie

Frolicking on the beach at Lake Michigan

My sister came out to visit for the 4th of July. She is currently living in Wisconsin. Her hubby just finished his 1st year of medical school. Most of you know that my sister was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago. She is coming upon her year mark of being cancer-free. In honor of this I am running the Chicago Marathon, October 22, through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and am raising money in her name. See the below link to keep updated on the cause.

This is an e-mail I sent Jamie:

This is week one of my 18 week training. Every week you have to have a long run. I did my long run today, because we are going on vacation tomorrow. I ran 6 miles today. I am proud of myself. I figured the other day I have been running on a weekly basis for almost 10 years now. Physically I am in pretty good shape, but running a long distance is definitely mental.

I really like to run it gives me time to think. Today at about mile three I started thinking about the marathon and how excited I am to raise money for such a good cause. I started thinking about you and it literally took my breathe away. My eyes welled up with tears and my heart began to ache so much that I gasped for air. I think about the last two years and think of times when I was so scared and felt so helpless. Many times I was so selfish and all I could think was please don't take my only sister. I love the quote that says, "Sisters by Chance, Friends by Choice". I am so grateful for you and feel so blessed that you are my sister.

I love you!

Its hard to comment on something like this because it is hard to put emotions into words. I lost my Grandma to Lymphoma and miss her daily. What an amazing thing you are doing!
Jamie is so lucky to have a sister like you! I don't think I know anyone who could be a more loyal, caring, empathetic, passionate, loving friend/sister. I am sure you make her proud! I am proud just to be your friend! We really need more people like you in this world-it would make it such a better place!
I Love you!
